Blokoto Pre3 is coming soon!
News
Thursday, March 6, 2025We are almost there! March is set to be the release date of Pre3, the Blokoto update that brings the long-awaited multiplayer mode, custom blocks inventory and workshop, and some quality-of-life additions fixes.
The multiplayer system is nearly ready. I've been working on it for a while now, and all this effort will finally be available so that everyone can play on the platform, not just create projects.
Along with it, the in-game chat system will also be included. Players will be able to express themselves through text, and every message will appear above their heads during gameplay.
A new button in the toolbar appears! The configuration button was moved from the top right corner to be part of the other big buttons party. It is now much more visible and consistent with the rest of the game interface visuals.
The project settings menu has also been moved. It is now on the side of the screen, making it easier to see the changes being made to the environment.
This update also introduces spawn points in the editing mode. Players will be able to respawn at various spawn points randomly placed throughout the map. This is the second type of item added to the game, alongside models.
I launched a poll on our Discord server a while back to find out which feature the community is most excited about right now. Unsurprisingly, avatars are by far the top feature players can’t wait to start creating, followed by weapons and victory conditions.
I know the community is eager to create characters, but I’ve decided to postpone that functionality until version Pre5, which will be released in July. Version Pre4 will focus on adding crucial features to make maps more dynamic and to introduce objectives in games, such as victory conditions and checkpoints. Avatars, however, will come before weapons, which are slated for Pre6.
This new version does bring some challenges for platform maintenance and development. Hosting costs rise as more players come online, so due to limited resources for a dedicated development server, the game will be released in RC (release candidate) versions for the community to test and report the most critical issues on the forum.
